Academy Award Nominee Mike Figgis to headline the Next Gen Film Festival’s Opening Night

Sacramento, California – July 6, 2010

Oscar nominated filmmaker, Mike Figgis will be appearing opening night at the California Next Gen Film Festival (NGFF) on September 23^rd 2010.

Said Figgis of his upcoming appearance, “I’m thrilled to be joining a festival that is continuing the dialogue on digital filmmaking and celebrating the filmmaker’s hard work by showing films in the best quality possible.”

Figgis will lead the core panel of the Festival, which will precede the festival’s opening night feature film.

Best known for his innovative work as the director of Internal Affairs, Cold Creek Manor, and directing Nicolas Cage’s Academy Award winning performance in Leaving Las Vegas, Figgis is one of the essential voices in independent filmmaking. His next move will be directing Lucrezia Borgia for the English National Opera. As a mentoring director, Figgis is determined to inform and empower up and coming filmmakers. His 2007 book, Digital Filmmaking, is a step by step tutorial on how to get the very best from digital filmmaking technology. The highly acclaimed book has quickly become a staple in film schools around the world.

For its second year, the California Next Gen Film Festival will be advancing its mission of promoting innovation and excellence in film and celebrating the next generation of filmmakers

This unique 3-day event presents feature films, as well as short films, documentaries, and digital animation projects in full HD quality. The NGFF focuses on encouraging upcoming filmmakers, but also on the ever-growing advances in film technology.

The California Next Gen Film Festival will be held at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium from September 23^rd-25^th and will include an opening night gala as well as a closing night awards ceremony.
